One of the main methods of dividing space without building non-bearing walls is zoning. Competent zoning helps to use the space as functionally and interestingly as possible, whether it is a large house, a small apartment or an office space. There are a lot of zoning methods:
The easiest option for visual separation is to lower the ceiling by 5 cm in the right place. This will be enough so that the eyes immediately draw a line and separate the zones. You can make a gap between two lowered ceiling structures. Or use different materials: matte gypsum plasterboard ceilings with glossy stretch ceilings, white and colored, wooden and painted under concrete, slats relief and flat.
Floor zoning
Just like the ceiling, the different levels of the floor divide the space nicely. Mix materials, their colors and shades: parquet, solid board, self-leveling floor, tile, mosaic, cork and much more.
Zoning with wall material
Changing the relief or material of the walls affects the room no less than the ceiling or floor. Protrusion of the wall in the right place can highlight the area better than other methods combined. And if you diversify with materials, of which there is simply an incredible amount in our time, you will get the maximum effect.
Zoning with furniture
Simply by placing a sofa in the center of the room towards the TV, you will already create a TV zone, and if you put a bar counter between the table and the kitchen, you will break the room into a kitchen and dining room. The way of dividing zones with furniture is used by designers very often.
Zoning with curtains
If you hang curtains across the room and open them, you can not only create a visual sense of separation, but also by turning the curtains right into a curtain wall.
Zoning with light
Light is most often used as an additional zoning accent. You can hang a chandelier over the sofa area and support the ceiling structures. Or make hangers above the bar counter, which will additionally designate the zone. An interesting solution would be to illuminate the steps when zoning the floor. This will additionally draw attention to it, and provide the necessary separation accent.
Zoning with details
Another complementary way of zoning. You can arrange tall vases, hang pictures, pull down a projector screen, or just put a rug in the right place. All this perfectly highlights the zones and complements them.
And of course, no one bothers to use two, three, five or all options at once. And there are no rules here, so feel free to experiment.
